The redevelopment and revitalization of San Diego's downtown neighborhoods is quickly becoming a west coast phenomenon. Emerging as a world-class
Pacific Rim city, the skyline is changing rapidly and incorporating soaring new high-rises amidst colorful and historic treasures from the city's early
beginnings. Without much argument, San Diego enjoys the best weather in the country year round. Ask anyone who lives or visits here to verify that fact. Besides the weather, a world class zoo, beaches and Balboa Park museums to enjoy, there are endless varieties of sports and activities for every interest.
Today there are eight separate districts in this 2.2 square mile downtown, each with a separate and distinctive charm. From Cortez Hill with stunning views
of city and bay to the newly emerging Columbia District in the North Embarcadero there are many diverse and exciting areas to explore. The new Padres
ballpark, Petco Park has sparked the development of East Village, the future SoHo of the west. The beautiful and enlarged Convention Center has
exceeded expectations and attracts groups from all over the country and many for repeat conventions. The expanding cruise ship industry brings visitors
from all over the world, many who vow to return over and over.

The Core is the center of San Diego’s downtown business, government and office district. Located in this area are the city’s major arts venues including Symphony Hall, the Civic Theatre and the 1926 California Theatre which is undergoing a major redevelopment and will re-open in 2007. Several historic buildings are being restored in this area and new residential, retail and commercial space is being planned. Public parking, always at a premium in an urban environment is also being added to many of the mixed use properties. The Diegan Hotel will introduce a new concept to San Diego which has been very successful in other cities. In addition to the hotel rooms for the public, there will be hotel/condominium units available for sale. Completion of the project will be in September of 2006 and will incorporate the historic Jessop building façade which will be preserved by the developer. Also located in this neighborhood is the Horton Plaza shopping and entertainment center built in 1985. This development helped to launch the redevelopment of downtown and continues to flourish as a center of commercial activity. The multi-use center includes shopping, hotels, theaters and restaurants and continue to draw locals and tourists alike with its’ unique architecture and atmosphere.
